Moosehead Scott here from Wilsons on Moosehead Lake: So much to report! There are many exciting things going on here at the Camps, on the East Outlet of the Kennebec River, and on Moosehead Lake.
Sorry I’m so late in writing this fishing report. I have been on the River nearly non-stop since the season began. The transition is nearly complete. The fish are settling into their feeding slots from top to bottom on the River and the caddis are hatching! Water levels are a little on the low side, making for super smart fish that only take what they’re looking for.
A couple nights ago, there was a blizzard caddis hatch and the fish wanted hendricksons. Keep this in mind; what you see in the air is not always what the fish are looking for! The East Outlet has been blessed this year once again with larger than average fish and we have been capitalizing on that. This morning on the River I saw tan, dark brown, and green bodied caddis and the fish were crushing a green bodied wet fly. Think partridge and green! This could change, and will change hourly at this point and it is worth rifling through the fly box to find what the big fish are looking for.
Tight Lines!
